When it opens this month, the Cameron Diaz movie In Her Shoes, set and partially shot in Center City, joins a tradition of Philadelphia-connected movies that dates back more than 100 years. Indeed, so many films were shot here at the turn of the last century that the city was considered the center of the nascent movie industry. (No, a Rocky prequel — Rocky Negative VI? — wasn’t among the releases.) * While we never did become Hollywood, the movie industry certainly didn’t forget us, and over the years scores of pictures have been shot, set, or somehow about Philadelphia. Which ones capture the city best? More important, which still hold up as great movies? Enough with the coming attractions.

Here are our picks (with a nod of thanks to some local film experts) for the 20 greatest Philly flicks ever.

COMMENT:
I always loved the movie "Stealing Home" starring Mark Harmon, Harold Ramis, and Jodie Foster. Set in the Chestnut Hill area. Another one to check out is "The In-Crowd" which is centered around the kids that appeared on "American Bandstand."
