Top Hospitals: Kidney Disease

Expertise in chronic and hereditary kidney diseases, kidney stones, hard-to-control high blood pressure, research and kidney/pancreas transplants earned two local hospitals mention by U.S. News & World Report. The University of Pennsylvania Health System (pennhealth.com/transplant/kidney) logged in at 12th, and Jefferson Hospital (jeffersonhospital.org/transplant/kidney) ranked 47th. Hahnemann Hospital (hahnemannhospital.com) also has an established liver, biliary and pancreas transplant center and was the first hospital in the region to transplant a kidney, in 1963. It’s known for its live-donor liver transplants, through which any healthy adult can donate a segment of liver to a loved one.
