Next: Picture Perfect

By Jessica Remo

Photograph by Steve Belkowitz
PART REAL (IT’S an unedited photo), part ethereal (but the landscape is a diorama with a miniature plastic tree), Philadelphia photographer John Murphy’s fantastical art is meant to be fun, functional — and not so serious. Which means the artist doesn’t mind if collectors engage him in the typically taboo conversation about how the piece looks in their living room, or even their children’s rooms. Murphy hand-paints the Victorian frames in complementary hues, creating finished windows for his oddly perfect panoramas. And if you’re left longing to perch upon the set’s paradisial hill, you’ll understand why this piece is from the edition whimsically titled “I Want to Be a Part of the Scenery.” $150-$1,500, shopjohnmurphy.com.
