A Pip Off the Old Block

An exuberant revival of Pippin opens at the Forrest

Alas, that old storybook struggle to find one's rightful place in this wicked world is a familiar one. Here's a worthy distraction from your search for purpose: A revival of Pippin comes to Philadelphia tonight for a limited engagement. Cast off your personal quest to instead bask in Pippin's confused, existential explorations, replete with song, dance and ... um ... Cirque-like acrobatics? That's just one of the contemporary twists in this revival of the 1972 Broadway hit, which makes a modern debut in time for another generation's coming of age. And if that's not enough of a draw, former Monkee Micky Dolenz adds his chords to the colorful mix as King Charlemagne. Searching for the meaning of life? Fan of Micky Dolenz? This show's got you covered. January 11th to 15th, Forrest Theatre, 1114 Walnut Street, 215-731-3333. Times vary. Tickets $25 to $124.
