Jersey Shore: Vintage Images of Bygone Days By Emil Salvini
(Globe Pequot Press; $18.95)

In a breezy follow-up to 2005’s Boardwalk Memories, historian Salvini uses an eclectic mix of archival photos and beefy captions to offer a whimsical tour of the old Jersey Shore experience. While packed with fun trivia (Miss America Parade grand marshal Marilyn Monroe was never invited back after she shocked organizers with her scanty attire), the tome that’s all over the Shore this summer is crippled by a lack of color photos and a few throwaway chapters (storms? transportation?) that douse the Shore’s magic in a pool of seawater.
