Michael Callahan, Executive Editor
Prior to becoming the magazine's executive editor in 2011, Callahan served as articles editor from 2007 to 2010. A former deputy editor at Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Town & Country, he was also the editor in chief of New Jersey Life. A regular contributor to Vanity Fair, he has also published stories in more than two dozen other national magazines, including Vibe, Men's Journal, Men's Health, Golf Digest, Good Housekeeping, and Worth. He has served as an adjunct professor of journalism at Fordham University in New York, and currently holds the same role at his alma mater of Temple.

Janine White, Digital Editorial Director
White oversees the Philly Post and edits travel and service features for Philadelphia magazine, and also writes regularly about travel, business and lifestyle. She contributes to Philadelphia Wedding, too. Past publishing gigs include New England Travel & Life, Boston Magazine’s Concierge, Boston Magazine’s Home & Garden, the Centre Daily Times in State College, and Alternative Medicine magazine.

Jesse Southerland, Design Director
Southerland, hailing from Evansville, Indiana, began his career in magazine design working at Evansville Living magazine where he was nominated for several City and Regional Magazine Association awards. Most notably was the highly regarded nomination for Best Cover Design which he produced for a total of around $175, which went towards the photo, an old school desk and a case of Rolling Rock beer for after the shoot. His low budget, hardworking midwest work ethic was not lost on him as he moved to Philadelphia in 2007 first working as Art Director for Philadelphia Style, before coming on board at Philadelphia magazine where he has continually been nominated in CRMA's Best Spread Design category as well as receiving merit awards from the Society of Publication Design. He has been published in the book Supersonic: Visuals for music, for album design and his photography has appeared on albums for the band Ween as well as the cover photo for comedian David Cross's album, It's not Funny. He enjoys pretending he's an intern or accountant during his crowded elevator ride up to the office's 36th floor and he also enjoys pretending he's a design director while at work.

Christine Speer Lejeune, Deputy Editor
Speer, a Tennessee native, received a B.A. in journalism from Indiana University and an M.A. in social sciences and political theory from University of Chicago before heading to Indianapolis Monthly magazine. There, after two years covering the food scene as dining editor, she moved on to reporting on the rest of the city's cultural fabric while honchoing the front-of-book section — a role she's continued to play here in Philadelphia since arriving in 2007.

Sandy Hingston, Senior Editor
Hingston, a graduate of Duke University and native of Bucks County, first joined the magazine in 1990. She retired her bi-monthly column on raising her two children, "Loco Parentis," in 2010, when both kids finally left for college (finally!). She has won awards for her work from the City and Regional Magazine Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and the Association for Women in Communications. Her writing has also appeared in Self, More, Women’s Health and Prevention, among other publications.

Bridget Salmons, Managing Editor
Before assuming the role of managing editor, Salmons, a graduate of Villanova University and Philadelphia native, spent three years working for the magazine's copy department. She keeps busy making sure everyone else is keeping busy—and spotting the occasional misplaced comma.

Steve Volk, Senior Writer
Steve Volk has never met a story he didn't like—coverings cops, crime, courts, politics, media and whatever else comes up in Philadelphia since 2002. Volk's first book, Fringe-ology, was released by Harper-Collins in June 2011. He lives with his wife, Lisa, in the Graduate Hospital area. And in the Pat's versus Geno's argument he chooses a hamburger every time.

Jason Sheehan, Food Editor
Jason Sheehan is a former dishwasher, fry-cook, grillardin, saucier and chef, and is currently the food editor Philadelphia magazine. He has won the James Beard Award for Restaurant Criticism, the International Association of Culinary Professionals Bert Greene Award for food writing, and his work has appeared in all sorts of strange places, including Gilt Taste, the Daily Beast, Cooking Light and the anthology, Best Food Writing, for the past eight years running. His first book, Cooking Dirty: A Story of Life, Sex, Love and Death in the Kitchen, was chosen by TIME magazine as one of the 10 best nonfiction books of the year. And yet despite all this, his mother still kinda thinks he should’ve been an orthodontist.

Emily Goulet, Lifestyle Editor
Goulet first joined the Philadelphia magazine ranks as an intern in 2004, and has held nearly every position at the magazine since, from fact-checker to research editor to senior lifestyle editor to executive editor of Wedding. Now she’s in charge of getting everyone pictured in this masthead to actually show up, turn in their stories, schedule their photoshoots, and get the magazine out the door – on time. She also contributes to lifestyle stories and service packages, and writes for Philadelphia Wedding and Philadelphia Home. She spends her free time scouring flea markets and vintage shops, redecorating the home she shares with her husband in Yardley, and trying to convince him that they need to get a puppy. (See how that works out on her weekly Diary of a Marriage blog.)

Carrie Denny, Editor, Philadelphia Wedding
Denny, a Philadelphia native and graduate of Penn State University, began her career at Philadelphia magazine as an intern, and is now fully submerged in the worlds of fashion, lifestyle, and the wedding planning of gazillions of Philadelphia-area brides. Beyond her daily work for Philadelphia Wedding, her writing regularly appears in Lucky, and she has also written and reported for In Style, Philadelphia Home and Pennsylvania’s Wine & Spirits Quarterly. Her first book, The Bride’s Instruction Manual: How to Survive and Possibly Even Enjoy the Biggest Day of Your Life (Quirk Books), hit stores in January 2009. She lives in Center City, and as often as she can help it, Avalon.

Emily Leaman, Health & Fitness Editor

Victor Fiorillo, Staff Writer and A&E Editor
A native of the area, Fiorillo joined the Philadelphia magazine staff in 2001. In addition to overseeing all aspects of research and fact-checking, Fiorillo writes regularly for all sections of the magazine.

Erica Palan, Managing Editor, Phillymag.com
Before joining the editorial staff at Philadelphia magazine, Palan, a Temple grad, spent four years at Philadelphia Weekly, where she held a variety of positions, including a two-year stint as arts and entertainment editor. She spends her days updating Phillymag.com and reminding everyone she meets to join us on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare.

Annie Monjar, Research Editor
Chicago native and Bowdoin grad Annie Monjar oversees all fact-checking operations at Philadelphia magazine. Before joining the staff, she spent a year as a freelancer in Charlotte, North Carolina, writing the arts and entertainment content for Charlotte magazine. Her work has appeared in Philadelphia, Charlotte, Where Traveler, and Front Desk magazines. When not seeking the facts (and only the facts!) for Philly Mag, she enjoys jogging through Fairmount Park and gathering as many frequent coffee punch-cards as she can fit in her wallet.

Michael Bertha, Assistant Editor, Phillymag.com
Mike Bertha is a Penn State grad from the ‘burbs. He’s witty, compassionate, humorous and humble. He runs, covers sports, fights crime, drinks Jameson, complains about SEPTA and enjoys the musical styling of the Roots. Not necessarily in that order.

Zoey Sless-Kitain, Photography Director
A Philly native and graduate of Tyler School of Art, Sless-Kitain has held an array of positions in various fields including theater management, public relations, event coordination and photography. Her photography has most recently appeared in two books, The Insider's Guide to Cape May and Philadelphia magazine's Ultimate Restaurant Guide.

Jessica Vermeer Hawkes, Associate Photo Editor
After growing up in an in-the-middle-of-nowhere Vermont town (seriously, they don't even have a Zip code), Jessica hightailed it to Philly — that is, after receiving her BFA from Syracuse University and working at O, The Oprah Magazine and New York magazine. In addition to her duties for Philly Mag and Philadelphia Wedding, Jessica also oversees the photo editing of Phillymag.com. Even though she looks at approximately 5,769,433 pictures a day, still says that photo direction is the best part of her job. She can often be seen out and about in Rittenhouse with her uber-stylish boyfriend.
