The United States’ and Venezuela’s annual Independence Day celebrations are just one day apart — July 4th and July 5th, to be exact.

To celebrate, Queen Village’s Puyero is putting a Venezuelan street food twist on American Fourth of July favorites with their Week De La Independencia menu, which starts today, June 30th.

Owners Manuela Villasmil and Gil and Simon Arends are featuring Venezuelan takes on burgers, hot dogs, and shakes, known there as chicha. While these treats are enjoyed at cookouts and picnics in the US, they’re typically consumed as late-night street eats in Venezuela.

The Street Burger features yellow and white cheeses, ham, cabbage, chips green mayo, ketchup, and mustard. The Patacón Burger is the same but sandwiched between two slices of fried plantain in place of the typical bun.

The Perro-Con-Todo — which translates to “dog with everything” — gets topped with the cheeses, cabbage, chips, green mayo, ketchup, and mustard. And the rice-based chicha come in two flavors, dulce de leche and chocolate, with a sprinkling of cookie crumbs on top. The burgers and dogs can be made vegetarian.

The special menu will be available starting today through July 9th, with the exception of July 4th, when Puyero is closed for (American) Independence Day.
