Where To Eat This Weekend: Carnitas Bao And Colombian Fusion

Scarpetta offers half-priced cocktails, wine and beer for happy hour.

So you’ve made it through Thanksgiving. Odds are pretty good that you’re home now and free of relatives and relations. So you know what you should do to celebrate? Go out to eat. Or drink. Or both.

And we’re here for you with a list of things to do this weekend that covers the spectrum from Mexican-Asian fusion to happy hour in Rittenhouse Square to more fusion–this time from Colombia, and happening at a bagel shop.

And it begins with…

Drinks On Castro–Look, we know this one is a little weird. And Cuba Libre chef-owner Guillermo Pernot knows it’s a little weird, too. But he’s offering a free rum and Coke (during happy hour) to anyone who comes to the bar and says “Viva Cuba” in order to try to spur a dialog about Fidel Castro and the mark he has left on world history. The special is running through December 4.

Happy Hour On Rittenhouse Square–Scarpetta has just launched a happy hour program that’s offering some serious deals. Serious like half-off beer, wine and cocktails, plus a whole menu of discounted snacks in the downstairs lounge. We’ve got the full menu for you to check out. Just click the link above.

Lunch Break–Oh, and while you’re cruising around Rittenhouse Square waiting for happy hour to start, how about this? Butcher Bar now has a lunch service. We suggest the Royale With Cheese and/or the Sloppy Joe Poutine. There’s also a plate of roasted cauliflower and brussels sprouts, but come on…

From Bogota To Philly–Looking for something a bit further afield? Then how about some Colombian fusion? On Friday night, chef Mel Tenorio is doing the third in his increasingly popular series of pop-ups at Philly Style Bagels on Friday night in support of his restaurant concept, Usaquen. You want a sneak peek at what tomorrow is going to taste like? Then this is the place to be.

Mexican Ramen–Similarly, Taqueria Feliz is doing a ramen (and bao, and salad) pop-up now through December 2. Yeah, you heard that right. Because who knew that carnitas bao buns and ramen poblano were things that we needed?
