Since 2009, SquareBurger in Franklin Square has been operated by Stephen Starr. The burger was an instant hit and the Cake Shake with Tastykake Krimpets an instant classic. But for 2016, the tenth year since Franklin Square has been revitalized, Square Burger will have a new operator. Now manning the stand and expanding the hours and offerings is Cooperage, the Cescaphe-backed wine and whiskey bar that resides in the Curtis at 7th and Sansom. Don’t worry, the Cake Shake isn’t going anywhere.

New for SquareBurger will be morning hours, coffee, breakfast tacos and a wider menu including healthier and vegetarian options. Other highlights include a shake-of-the-month, burger-of-the-month and selection of salads.

With Franklin Square’s 10th Birthday celebration, there will be exciting new programming for one of William Penn’s original five squares. First up is the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival running from April 22nd to June 12th. Independence Day is always a big deal at the park and Saturdays in July and August will feature Saturday nights at the movies. For more on Franklin Square’s summer programming check out Historic Philadelphia’s website.

SquareBurger opens for business on Saturday, April 2nd, serving breakfast from 10 a.m. to 11:30 and lunch and dinner through one hour before the square closes.
