Mathis Headed To Pro Bowl

Earlier this month, Evan Mathis earned All-Pro honors.

Now, he’s headed to the Pro Bowl as well.

Mathis was originally named an alternate, but because three of the guards who made the squad at first – San Francisco Mike Iupati, Denver’s Louis Vasquez and New England’s Logan Mankins – are on teams that are still in the playoffs, he’s headed to Hawaii.

Mathis’ reaction?

The 32-year-old has started 47 of the last 48 games since signing with the Eagles prior to the 2011 season. The truth is his 2013 season was really no better than the previous two when Mathis didn’t earn any postseason honors.

“Honestly, if I’m comparing myself to myself, the past three seasons have been pretty consistent,” Mathis said last week. “But there’s some things that I’m doing better and better and are becoming easier and easier. Some techniques as well as plays that I hadn’t run before that I was able to run in this offense and some new techniques that Coach [Jeff] Stoutland was able to teach me. So as far as the tools that I have to use, my toolbox has grown.”

Nick Foles will also be going to Hawaii, making the team as an alternate. LeSean McCoy was an original selection. And while Jason Peters was named to the roster, he has since opted out and will not participate.
