Vick Limited At Practice Tuesday

Chip Kelly said at his day-after press conference that he didn’t believe Michael Vick would be a go for Tuesday’s practice. So it was a little bit of a surprise to see No. 7 trot out onto the field early this afternoon.

Vick did not participate in team drills, but got some throwing and a little jogging in.

“We didn’t want to stress it. We just wanted to take it one day at a time,” said Vick. “It’s early, just trying to get myself back into a flow, back into a rhythm, get my legs up under me.”

Vick is nursing a sore hamstring, which he sustained in the second quarter against the Giants. Nick Foles, who performed well in Vick’s absence, took the first-team reps Tuesday.

Chip Kelly says that Vick is day-to-day, though a league source backed up Adam Schefter’s report that Vick is expected to miss Sunday’s game in Tampa. The quarterback talked about the balance between trying to get back out there and forcing the issue.

“That’s the thing, you just don’t want to put yourself in a position where you can’t get back out there for two or three weeks,” he said. “The coaches told me to come out and do whatever I could. I came out and threw the ball, just got a feel for what I could do — I know my body better than anybody else. But you don’t want to strain it, you don’t want to do anything to make the position even worse.”

Vick said that he sustained a similar injury earlier in his career that kept him out for a game.

“I think I was in Atlanta. But I was a little younger, too,” he said.

The 33-year-old badly wants to be on the field for all 16 regular-season games this season, but recognizes that may not be a reality.

“The thing I wanted to do for this football team is be accountable and be there for them every week, and it’s kind of disheartening when you can’t be out there and playing,” he said. “But the good thing is we have a good backup who will be able to step in and do a great job with this team and we have a lot of players who believe in themselves and each other, so that will take us a long way.”
