Bruce in the USA: Because our founding fathers and Bruce Springsteen have just so much in common, the Constitution Center has decided to host From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen. It opens tonight with music by Bruce tributers The B Street Band, boardwalk fries, and Flying Fish Beer and runs all the way through September 3rd. Details
Knives in Hens: The last time Theatre Exile produced a David Harrower play, it was Blackbird in 2009, and the show got some great reviews. Fast-forward three years, and the company has decided to rewind to the beginning of the Scottish playwright's career with this 1995 fable about a love triangle (and so much more). See it at South Philly's Studio X through March 4th. Details
We Want the Funk: Yes, indeed we do want the funk. Good seats ($29 to $45) are still available. Details
The Cage Conundrum: Nicolas Cage has made as many great or good movies as he has bad or pathetic ones. On the good/great side, I would list Wild at Heart, Raising Arizona, the breathtakingly tragic Leaving Las Vegas, the neurotic Adaptation, and even his sci-fi box-office hit Face Off, which is still a fun one to watch. But on the other side, you've got National Treasure, Snake Eyes and The Wicker Man—a movie whose title is bad but not as bad as the movie itself—just to name a few. So which side will Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance land on? Details
Because It's Not Only Black History Month: There are two kinds of people in this world. People who love bourbon. And people who can't touch the stuff. I am decidedly the former, and if you are too, you should really know that Iron Chef Jose Garces is also a big fan of the brown stuff, so much so that he's declared Bourbon Month for the entirety of February at one of his restaurants.
